A TRIBUTE TO LATE MARIA AKUBUEZUKA CHINAGOROM

It is with great sadness that CWONLA Lekki Deanery, church mourns the death of one of its most widely and highly respected leaders in Lekki Deanery, Mrs. Maria Akubuezuka Chinagorom who passed on to Glory on Thursday 18th May 2023 after a protracted illness.

In the course of her services to the Church and the CWO, she served as the president of CWONLA ST. Theresa’s Catholic Church Ikota Lekki; and Social Secretary of CWONLA Lekki deanery. An office which she held until her demise. The most distinguishing mark of her ministry was her friendship; that friendship into what Jesus called his disciples at the upper room on the eve of his Passion, death and resurrection, that friendship into which he called his followers of different ages. Mrs. Chinagorom served CWO, and the Church with all her heart, and c ontributed immensely in the building of her own parish St. Theresa Catholic church. She was always eager to maintain unity at all times. Indeed she embodied that long cherished principle oflove and friendship among the members of CWO of her parish and the Deanery. Indded many of us will never forget her commitment and, long service to her parish, our Deanery and the church. Her often smiles, hearty laughs and moments when her eyes danced with delight over someone’s happiness or accomplishments, or tears over someone’s pain or grief will always be remembered. I know I am but, one among the so many who can say Mrs. Chinagorom was one of our dearest friends. I admired her we all appreciated her, her wisdom borne of many years in CWO and as exco in our CWONLA Lekki Deanery.

While we mourn her, we know what great trust she had in the promises of Christ, what great joy she had in the very thought of being a guest in heaven. As we remember our dear sister and friend in Christ, we pray for her children and her entire family whom she loved.

In remembering the manner of Mrs. Chinagorom living and dying, a prayer written by Theodore Parker Ferris comes to mind:

“Teach me O lord not to hold onto life too tightly. Teach me to hold it lightly, not carelessly, but lightly and easily. Teach me to take it as a gift, to enjoy and cherish while I have it and, to let it go gracefully and thankfully when the time comes, the gift is greater still. Thou O God art the caller and indeed is life that never dies. Amen’’.

ADIEU SIS! TILL WE MEET AGAIN IN PARADISE.
